Caltrans and TAMC are proposing to install 9 roundabouts on the 8 miles of Hwy 68, between Josselyn Canyon Rd and San Benancio Rd. at a projected cost of $227 Million and they are still open to public input before making the final decision “later this Spring”. Tell them what you think NOW by going to TAKE ACTION!  

The 9 roundabouts will significantly increase emergency response times and are opposed by the Monterey County Fire Chief and Sheriff. Emergency Response Times The 9 roundabouts will also increase emissions, collisions and non-peak commute times while allegedly reducing the 2 hours of PM peak commute by ONLY 5 minutes and reducing the AM peak commute “marginally”. The original proposal was also based on a number of false claims and misleading information that are summarized in this Letter to TAMC Board of Directors 

They did not even consider the much better option of Artificial Intelligence (AI) Controlled Traffic Signals even though AI will produce 2-3 times better results than roundabouts and at a fraction of the cost ($440,000). AI adapts to changing traffic conditions in real time 24/7, 365 days per year and can communicate between intersections for a smoother traffic flow.  Plus, AI can be installed in a few months, using existing signals and without disrupting traffic or impacting the environment.  Here is a summary of AI benefits.   AI versus 9 Roundabouts
